Lekwa Local Municipality continues to experience high electricity usage during peak hours which are between 06h00 – 08h00 morning and between 16h00 – 20h00 afternoon. As the winter season has started the demand has escalated to reach the upmost maximum and this has threatened the electricity continuous supply. There is therefore a possibility of electricity tripping in Standerton and surrounding areas. The Lekwa Local Municipality is therefore requesting the community to implement the following measures in-order to avoid the unplanned interruptions:

  • ·       Switching off geysers during pick hours;
  • ·       Minimize usage of heaters as much as possible;
  • ·       Don’t use electronic stoves for heating the house/home;
  • ·       Switching off non-essential appliances;
  • ·       Lights on unused/unoccupied rooms be switched off.

There may be a need to reduce` demand very quickly to an acceptable level by switching off high users or there will be a risk on the electricity network being unstable (load shedding).The municipality will start with the process of running a project on completely disconnecting people that have bridged and those that are not paying for electricity.

If consumers can safely reduce their electricity consumption during periods of high demand, this can ease the supply/demand balance and can mitigate the need for switching off high users zones or areas.

The municipality will try by all means to avoid the electricity outage.
