Today the 18th of July 2019 Lekwa Local Municipality celebrated Mandela day by helping Mbako Constructions hand over a newly built RDP house to Ms Ntombi Selepe whose house burnt down on the 4th of February 2019. Mr Josias of Mbako Constructions heard about the fire and decided to help rebuild the house for Ntombi and her family which they moved back into last week Thursday the 11 of July 2019. Today electricity was fitted into the house by the Municipality. The Municipality appreciates the helping hand from Ngako Construction.
Cllr M.S Radebe-Khumala who was acting Executive Mayor for the day together with other Municipal Councillors then moved to Inhlosenhle Home Based Care center to give blankets to the elderly who are based at the home.
Joy and sense of appreciation can be seen through the eyes of the elderly when they received their blankets. Speaker of Council, Cllr. Khota helped the Acting Executive Mayor to hand over the blankets.

Lekwa Local Municipality is currently lighting up the town by fixing all street lights including Sakhile and surroundings.
The programme is in progress and today electricians where busy replacing old street lights with LED lights. The Municipality will not rest until all streets lights are on.

MEC for Public Works Mr. Gillion Mashego and MEC for Culture, Sports and Recreation Mrs. Thandi Shongwe alongside the Lekwa Local Municipality Executive Mayor Cllr. Linda Dhlamini and Local Municipal Councillors visited the newly built Sakhile Library and the Rooikopen Day Care Center today the 15 of March 2018. The purpose of the visit was to check progress made on the building of the above mentioned facilities. 
Both MEC's were pleased  with the progress made on both projects. Both facilities will add value to  educational well being of Sakhile residents. 
A commitment was made by both MEC's that the next site visit will be on the 1st of April 2019.  


Mayor and Cosas presents sanitary pads to farm school girl learners
Nomasonto Nhlapo is a learner at Rondavel  Combined School situated at Ward 9. She used to skip lessons some days because she could not afford the "luxury" of accessing sanitary pads. But things have changed for the better for Nomasonto and her peers when they received packs of sanitary pads from the Executive Mayor of Lekwa, Cllr. LBR  Dhlamini. The event took place at her school today, Rondavel Combined School. 
The Executive Mayor when he addressed the learners in their mother tongue Zulu said "Ukuthi uzalelwephi akusho ukuthi ngekhe uphumelele". He further urged the learners to use the time given to them to study fruitful as they're the light of the world. 
Miss Nkosikhona Radebe, Cosas Regional Cordinator when addressing the learner indicated that as Cosas they're advocating for school girls to receive 
Free sanitary towels.
Mr. Thabiso Khoza, Cosas Regional Convenor indicated that they promote education and will support the learners on their challenges.

Regardless of their background, age or medical history most senior citizens are dealing with the same wellness issues that impact their wellbeing including depression, reduced mobility,  lack of independence, safety concerns and age specific health issues.
Lekwa Local Municipality in an effort to improve the life of the elderly people hosted a sports day yesterday the 13th of March 2019 at Sakhile Staduim.
Gogos Lekwa Football Club played a friendly match against the Alpha World Ministry Football Club and were both awarded Gold Medals for their commitment and good sportsmanship. 
Lekwa Local Municipality in partnership with DCSR,  Nedbank and the Community Safety and Liason Department donated a full soccer kit including Soccer boots to the 
Gogos Lekwa Football Club. 
The Executive Mayor Cllr LBR Dhlamini emphasized during his speech that the sports day should be held quarterly wich means 4 times in a year to better improve the health of elders.
