The Kubhunya Lutfuli eMpumalanga Programme was officially launched in the Lekwa Local Municipality by the Mpumalanga Premier, Mr. Mandla Ndlovu accompanied by MEC for Public Works, Thulasizwe Thomo, Gert Sibande District Executive Mayor, Cllr. Walter Mngomezulu and Lekwa Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr. Sifiso Mngemezulu.
The launch took place at Kruger Street, one of the busiest streets that connects the community to the Standerton Hospital and Gert Sibande TVET College. They later embarked on re-gravelling of the road in extension 8.
The Kubhunya Lutfuli eMpumalanga Programme is a comprehensive initiative that focuses on addressing critical infrastructure needs, particularly the rehabilitation of the roads. As part of this initiative, the government aims to tackle pressing socio-economic challenges that impact the daily lives of residents.
Lekwa Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr. Sifiso Mngemezulu, emphasised the importance of the programme, describing it as an integrated approach to infrastructure development and maintenance.
He stated: “This is an extensive integrated programme that is aimed at infrastructure development and its maintenance and tackling socio-economic challenges faced by our people, among other things.
The road repairs are expected to bring lasting benefits to local residents, improving mobility, safety, and connectivity, while also stimulating economic growth of the town”
The programme is also set to continue in the internal streets of Sakhile and other townships, where efforts will focus on patching potholes and re-gravelling roads to further improve infrastructure and enhance road safety and mobility of the residents.
