Lekwa Local Municipality is currently hosting an impactful capacity building workshop for councillors. The workshop started on Monday 16 September 2024 and is expected to be completed on Friday 20 September 2024 and is held at the Council Chamber, in Standerton.
The training aimed at equipping councillors with essential skills to better serve our communities. Led by the experienced Mr. Elijah Musakanda from JobAfrik Consulting, this workshop focused on the Local Government Councillor Practical Skills Programme, which grants participants 50 credits certificate upon completion, endorsed by The Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LGSETA).
The training emphasised the vital roles councillors play as community representatives, leaders, and guardians of public finances.
Key learning outcomes included, effective participation in policy and decision-making, the ability to craft and pass by-laws that reflect the needs of the community, skills to guide municipal administration in alignment with community priorities.
MMC for Corporate Services, Cllr. Phindile Mahlaba said the workshop highlights the commitment to building the capacity of political office bearers, equipping councillors with the knowledge and tools necessary to better represent their communities and ultimately improve the lives of all residents within the municipality.
