On the 13th November 2024, Lekwa Local Municipality conducted ward committee members training at Standerton town hall headed by Ward 9 Cllr. John Nkutha. The purpose of the training aimed at improving the functionality of ward committees on their roles and responsibilities within the community.
The matters for discussion involved IDP and Budget Process, Implementation of ward operational plan, roles and responsibilities of Secretaries, Ward councilor and Community Development Workers programmes, consolidating monthly reports, Coordinating and monitoring of ward committees’ activities lastly the importance of participation in the affairs of the local government.
Ward 9 councillor, Cllr. John Nkutha emphasised “It is essential for all ward committee members to understand their roles and responsibilities thoroughly. Effective participation and collaboration are key to ensuring that the needs of our communities are met. As we continue to improve the functionality of our ward committees, we are ultimately working towards building a stronger, more inclusive local government that serves the people at the grassroots level.’’
