The MEC for the Provincial Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport, Thulasizwe Thomo, joined by the MMC for Community Services and Safety, Cllr. Thembisile Motloung, led the law enforcement operation against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) along the R23 road.
The operation aimed to strengthen law enforcement efforts, raise awareness and contribute to the fight against the scourge of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, which has been declared a national disaster in South Africa.
As part of the awareness campaign, stakeholders participating in the operation engaged with motorists by distributing pamphlets and handing out roses to encourage meaningful conversations about preventing GBVF and promoting responsible behaviour within communities.
During the engagement, MEC Thomo and MMC Motloung called on motorists to take a stand against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide. They emphasised the importance of saying “STOP Gender-Based Violence and Femicide”, while also reminding motorists to prioritise road safety and ensure that they “Arrive Alive” at their destinations.
The campaign served as a reminder that ending Gender-Based Violence and Femicide requires collective participation in building safer communities for women and children.
