Today, the Gert Sibande District Municipality Speaker of Council Cllr. Busisiwe Sekhonde, and the Lekwa Local Municipality Executive Mayor Cllr. Sifiso Mngemezulu donated school uniforms and sanitary towels to the learners of Thandeka Primary School.
The donation was aimed at easing some of the challenges faced by learners from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Cllr. Mngemezulu expressed his gratitude towards the Gert Sibande District Municipality for their continued support, emphasising the positive impact of such initiatives on the learners. “This donation has brought joy to us and most importantly, it has brought joy to the learners of this school. I also urge the school staff to ensure that the donated essentials are distributed fairly among all deserving learners.”
The School Governing Body (SGB) Chairperson, Mr. Zakhele Nkosi, remarked on the significance of the donation and described the school as being in need of consistent support.
The Principal of Thandeka Primary School Mr. Hloni Selepe also expressed his deep appreciation for the generous donation. “I would like to thank the leadership for this wonderful donation. It will go a long way in helping our learners focus on their studies without worrying about school uniforms or essential hygiene products,” he said.
The event was honoured by the presence of the Whip of Council, Cllr. Rose Motloung, Cllr. Piet Radebe, and Cllr. Dorcus Rakitla.
