Heritage Month Pop-Up Market Celebrates Local Brands in Standerton

The Standerton Town Hall was packed as it hosted the Heritage Month Pop-Up Market from 26 to 27 September 2024. This vibrant event, organised by the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) in collaboration with the Lekwa Local Municipality, Gert Sibande District, SASOL, and the Mpumalanga Department of Economic Development and Tourism, aimed to give spotlight to local entrepreneurs under the theme “Show Love To Local Brands.”

The programme was officially opened by the Executive Mayor Cllr Delane Thabethe who emphasised the importance of supporting local businesses. “This initiative not only promotes our rich heritage but also empowers our local entrepreneurs to thrive, The Pop-Up Market provides a platform for local entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products, but it also facilitates access to potential funding assistance” said the Executive Mayor.

Attendees had the opportunity to explore various range of products and services offered by local businesses. The Executive Mayor, accompanied by MEC for Economic Development and Tourism Makhosazane Masilela, MMC for Planning & Economic Development Cllr Seipati Modise, and MMC for Technical Services Cllr Thabo Sebiloane, visited
the stalls, engaging with business owners and sampling their goods.

As the first day of the market came to a close, MMC Modise shared her thoughts on the event’s impact and thanking all the stakeholders involved. “Our local brands are the heartbeat of our economy. By providing them with the necessary support and resources, we can ensure that they flourish,” she stated. “This market is just the beginning; we must
continue to uplift our entrepreneurs and celebrate the unique offerings of
our town”

Day 2 of the Heritage Month Pop-Up Market was held at Charl Cilliers Street, right outside the Monument Centre. The environment was vibrant, filled with excitement as local Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) showcase their unique products and services. From handcrafted jewellery, clothing brands, homemade products, to multimedia services, there was something for everyone.
