Indigent Registration Campaign Launched To Ensure No Family Is Excluded

Lekwa Local Municipality has launched the annual indigent registration campaign to ensure no family is excluded from receiving basic services.

The indigent registration campaign reaffirms the municipality’s commitment to providing relief to its most vulnerable residents.

The campaign, which started on Monday 01 September 2025, will run until 07 November 2025, reaching all the wards of the municipality.

Residents can register or update their indigent status at their ward community halls as per published schedule.

The indigent registration campaign is aligned to the municipality’s Indigent Policy which is designed to assist households whose total income fall below R5 200, pensioners, child-headed households and people with disability, with debt relief and free basic services such as water, sanitation, refuse collection and electricity.

Executive Mayor, Cllr. Sifiso Mngemezulu encouraged all qualifying residents including those who previously registered on the indigent database to come forward to register and update their indigent status.

“I am calling on all qualifying residents to come and register so that they can benefit from the support meant to assist them access free basic services,” he said.

Lekwa Local Municipality is striving to ensure that every indigent household is registered and gets the municipal services they deserve.
