Lekwa Community Safety Forum conducts public safety operation

The Lekwa Community Safety Forum conducted a comprehensive public safety operation on 08 October 2025. The operation was led by the (MMC) for Community Services and Safety, Cllr. Mapaseka Molaba, the Executive Manager for Community Services and Safety, Ms. Thobeka Mthiselwa, and Colonel B.P. Mokoena from SAPS Standerton.
The operation aimed to enhance public safety and enforce compliance with municipal and national safety regulations, including:
Municipal Health By-laws No. 3829 of 4 July 2025
Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act 54 of 1972 (as amended)
R638 of 22 June 2018: Regulations Governing General Hygiene Requirements for Food Premises, the Transport of Food, and Related Matters
Municipal Fire Department By-laws (Proclaimed by Administrator 1771 of 23 December 1981)
SABS 0400: Code of Practice for the National Building Regulations (Act 103 of 1977)
Lekwa Local Municipality Land Use Scheme, 2020
During the operation a total of 17 local businesses were inspected, including grocery shops, liquor outlets, supermarkets, and salons. The results were as follows:17 businesses issued with general waste control notices, 15 businesses issued with vector control notices, 1 business temporarily closed, 2 businesses issued with prohibition orders, 2 businesses issued with J534 notices (fines)
Also in attendance were officials from:
Lekwa local Municipality, SAPS Standerton, Gert Sibande District Municipality Environmental Health, Kasselman Security, AfriForum and Team Ngenelela.
All inspected businesses were cautioned to adhere to building safety standards.
Following the operation, members convened at Standerton SAPS for a debriefing session.
The Lekwa Community Safety Forum reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring public safety, maintaining health standards, and promoting compliance with municipal and national regulations within the community.
