Lekwa Local Municipality receives firefighting equipment to boost emergency response

On the 21st January 2025 Lekwa Local Municipality received a generous donation of firefighting equipment from COFCO. The donation, handed over at the Standerton Fire Station, aims to strengthen the municipality’s ability to respond to fires and other emergencies, ensuring the safety and well being of its residents.

The equipment was warmly received by MMC for Community Services and Safety, Cllr. Mapaseka Molaba, and MMC for Budget and Treasury, Cllr. Thabang Motaung. Among the valuable equipment donated were 1 air compressor, 12 self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), and two LED monitor flood lights, all of which are essential tools for effective firefighting and rescue operations.

Mr. Lucky Maseko, the Environmental Health and Safety representative from COFCO said prioritising community safety was something close to their heart and that firefighting equipment would assist in ensuring community member’s safety including their business and employees as they are part of the greater community of Lekwa.

“As COFCO, we are committed to continuing to give back to the community as part of our social responsibility, especially since we are operating within the vicinity of Lekwa,” he stated, highlighting the company’s dedication to supporting the local community.

He further urged the municipality to look after the donated equipment as handling them with care would ensure durability and boost the municipality’s ability to respond to fire for longer period.

MMC Mapaseka Molaba said: “The donation will enhance the operational capacity of the Lekwa Local Municipality’s fire stations, improving the ability to respond swiftly and efficiently in times of emergencies. We are deeply grateful to COFCO for their generosity, and we remain committed to ensuring the continued safety and well-being of our community.”
