IMG 5962The Lekwa Local Municipality has received two major Social and Labour Plan (SLP) infrastructure projects worth over R10.4 million Seriti through its New Denmak Colliery operating in Standerton.

The handover ceremony was held on Wednesday, 23 July 2025 at Siqalo Lodge in Standerton.

The donation includes a state-of-the-art vacuum truck, valued at R4,171,134, to support sanitation services in rural areas that are in need of honey-sucking and vacuuming operations.

This specialised vehicle will significantly enhance the municipality’s sanitation service for residents living in farm areas, contributing to improved health and hygiene standards across affected communities.

In addition, Seriti has funded the upgrade of the Standerton Water Treatment Plant, investing R6,222,152.85 in the installation of new water pumps and a modern Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. This advanced monitoring technology will allow for real-time oversight of pump operations at the facility, improving water supply to all wards within the municipality.

Delivering the donations, Seriti’s Chief People Officer, Tshegofatso Mashapu said the R10.4 million investment responds directly to two of Lekwa’s most pressing service delivery challenges: sanitation and water security.

“The handover of this infrastructure reflects Seriti’s ongoing commitment to sustainable development and the upliftment of host communities,” he stated.

Delivering the keynote Executive Mayor, Cllr. Sifiso Mngemezulu appreciated the support the municipality constantly receives from Seriti, indicating that the company impactful contributions greatly reduce service delivery backlog.

“We appreciate the donation we receive from Seriti, as it significantly contributes to addressing critical service delivery backlogs, particularly in the areas of water and sanitation. This is a clear demonstration of what can be achieved when the private sector and government work collaboratively for the betterment of our people.

“The programme is not just a ribbon cutting ceremony but it’s a significant milestone that will have a positive impact in our community”, said Cllr. Mngemezulu.

He further assured that the vacuum truck would be properly maintained and utilised to ensure its longevity and sustained benefit to the communities.
