Lekwa Local Municipality has timely submitted the 2024/2025 Annual Financial Statements (AFS) and Annual Performance Report (APR) by the legislated deadline of 31 August 2025.
This underscores Lekwa Local Municipality’s commitment to accountability and transparency in the financial and performance management of the municipality.
The submissions were made in full compliance of Section 126(1) of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), Act No. 56 of 2003 which stipulates that:
“The accounting officer of a municipality – must prepare the annual financial statements of the municipality and, within two months after the end of the financial year to which those statements relate. Submit the statements to the Auditor-General for auditing.”
Acting Municipal Manager, Mr. Mthembeni Jiyane said these submissions which are credible and comprehensive reflect collaborative efforts of the municipality’s governance structures that include management, audit committee and the Council in ensuring accountable and transparent governance.
“The submissions are critical accountability mechanism of financial and non-financial performance, not only to the Auditor-General but also to the residents of the municipality as they will access this information as well once fully audited.”
“We are optimistic that the submitted information will have positive impact on auditing process which is underway and anticipate an improved audit outcome,” he stated.
Lekwa Local Municipality further pledges full corporation with the Auditor General’s audit process currently underway and commits to meet all set timeframes of submitting required information.
