GOLDI assists the municipality to address water challenges in Standerton

Oct 16, 2023

Executive Mayor, Cllr. Louis Thabethe has been engaging various stakeholders on the current water supply challenges in Standerton.

Goldi has headed the Executive Mayor’s call and will be installing a diesel pump today (Monday, 16 October 2023) to improve the raw water abstraction and thereby improve water supply to communities.

The water supply challenges were in the past week exacerbated by poor performance of raw water pumping units and dropping raw water abstraction by 50% which negatively affected water supply, resulting in inconsistent water supply to all wards in Standerton.

A service provider was on site during this week and the faulty electrical motor was replaced however there is a problem with the impeller and the service provider is working on the challenges.

“I had to turn stakeholders in our jurisdictions seeking assistance as I could not seat back and wait for the service provider when the problem of those failing pumping units seems to be bigger and takes more time to repair while residents have no water,” said Executive Mayor Thabethe.

He said as much as water tankers have been supplying water to affected communities, he understands the inconveniences caused by this arrangement which is why he is facilitating assistance of stakeholders and businesses who can assist.

“We are very grateful to Goldi for always availing their resources to assist the Lekwa Community whenever we request their assistance. This is evident that they are not only the doing business in our area but have the interest of this community at heart.

“I urge all the affected communities to be patient as difficult as it is, we are working hard to address the challenges we are faced with as municipality.

“As this Council, we are committed to address all the historic infrastructure challenges we are facing and providing our residents with quality services,” concluded Executive Mayor, Cllr. Louis Thabethe.
