Community Safety Forum conducts roadblock on R23 to ensure law enforcement and promote road safety measures

Oct 30, 2023

In an effort to address the growing concerns of road safety and law enforcement, the local Community Safety Forum recently organised a roadblock on R23 outside Meyerville, a major inter-provincial road that connects Mpumalanga through Lekwa to KwaZulu Natal and Gauteng provinces.

The initiative aimed at enforcing road regulations, educating drivers about the importance of adhering to safety measures, and creating a safe environment for all road users. The Safety Forum was joined by the Executive Mayor, Cllr Louis Thabethe, MMC for Community Services and Safety, Cllr. Seipati Modise and MMC for Technical Services, Cllr Sipho Majozi.

During the roadblock, the Community Safety Forum collaborated with local Law Enforcement Agencies to check for several violations, such as speeding, seat belt usage, drunk driving, and proper vehicle documentation.

The roadblock provided an opportunity for the Community Safety Forum to engage with drivers and passengers, creating awareness about the importance of adhering to safety measures on the road.

“Let me acknowledge all partakers of this forum from Lekwa Traffic Controller, Fire and Rescue Department, SAPS and Kasselman Security Service. It is an honour for me to join you in this important programme and this collaborative effort not only fosters a sense of unity among residents but also establishes a supportive relationship between the community and law enforcement officials” Cllr Louis Thabethe said.
