Nov 6, 2024

In its Special Council Meeting held on Tuesday, 05 November 2024, Lekwa Local Municipality Council has elected Councillor Sifiso Mngemezulu as Executive Mayor and Councillor Dumisani Msibi as the Speaker of Council.

This follows the council’s passing of the motion of no confidence against the former Executive Mayor and former Speaker respectively, during the Ordinary Council Meeting held on 31 October 2024.

Newly elected Speaker, Cllr. Dumisani Msibi thanked the Council for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the Council.

“I wish to remind councillors that we are here for service delivery and we should be united as political parties towards rendering those services to our community,” he said immediately after taking his chair to continue the proceedings of the council.

The newly elected Executive Mayor, Cllr. Mngemezulu appreciated Council for trusting him with such a responsibility and indicated that he will work with all the stakeholders to ensure acceleration of service delivery to all communities.

“I assure all stakeholders and the entire Lekwa community that this transition has been a smooth one and commit to pull all stops to ensure service delivery is fast-tracked to reach all our residents,” said Executive Mayor Mngemezulu.
