Lekwa Local Municipality convened a Ward Councillors Forum to strengthen collaboration with Stats SA

IMG 5995On the 29th July 2025, Lekwa Local Municipality convened a Ward Councilors Forum in the Main Administration Building Council Chamber. The meeting was chaired by the Speaker of Council Cllr Phindile Mahlaba and brought together all councillors, ward committees and representatives from Statistics South Africa (Stats SA).

The purpose of the engagement was for Stats SA to interact with Ward Councilors as part of the ongoing data survey currently being conducted within Lekwa and the broader Gert Sibande District Municipality.

Key discussions included outlining the objectives and process of the survey, identification of Stats SA field workers for easy recognition and Safety measures for both field workers and the community.

“All Councillors should play a critical role in bridging the gap between our communities and government agencies”

“I encourage all councillors to work closely with Stats SA to ensure that our community members are well informed and feel confident about the purpose and credibility of the fieldwork teams” said Cllr. Mahlaba.
