Lekwa Local Municipality enhances service delivery with handover of five new bakkies

IMG 6330In a decisive move to improve service delivery and operational response times, the Lekwa Local Municipality officially handed over five new bakkies to Technical and Budget and Treasury departments. The vehicles have been allocated as follows: one for the Water Division, one for the Electrical Division, one for the Revenue Enhancement Unit and two for the Sanitation Division.

The handover was led by Executive Mayor Cllr. Sifiso Mngemezulu on the 4th of September 2025. Addressing officials and staff during the handover, the Executive Mayor emphasised the importance of taking care of municipal assets.

“These bakkies are not just vehicles, they are tools meant to serve our people. Please take care of them and use them responsibly to deliver the services that our communities deserve,” said Cllr. Mngemezulu.

This initiative is part of the municipality’s broader commitment to strengthening service delivery by ensuring that departments are equipped to carry out their duties effectively.

Also in attendance was the MMC for Budget and Treasury Cllr. Thabang Motaung, emphasised the importance of the investment, stating: “By investing in reliable service vehicles, we are empowering our departments to respond faster and more effectively.

Representatives of the departments expressed appreciation for the support, noting that the new vehicles would significantly enhance their ability to attend to service calls, especially in high-demand areas.
