Installation of Energy Saving Street Lights

557634427 1280912850746220 3474111896531295575 nAs part of its drive to modernise the street lights and ensure every street is bright at night, Lekwa Local Municipality is progressing very well with the street light retrofitting that improves safety, visibility and security at night.

This project forms part of the Energy Efficiency and Demand Side Management (EEDSM) Programme which is aimed at enhancing public lighting at reduced electricity consumption and optimising the use of energy to the full benefit of residents.

Inspecting the progress of the project, Executive Mayor, Cllr. Sifiso Mngemezulu said this project also modernise municipal infrastructure and promote sustainability.

“Retrofitting project has already begun across local wards, with visible benefits including improved energy efficiency, better lighting, and enhanced safety for residents,” he stated.

The municipality secured funding allocation of R4 million for the retrofitting of high mast lights and streets through the Energy Efficiency Demand Side Management (EEDSM) grant from the National Government.

The rollout of the project is being implemented in phases to ensure all areas of the municipality benefit.

“I remain committed to making Lekwa a municipality that leads in energy efficiency, sustainable development, and reliable service delivery.

“Through these efforts, the municipality is building a future that works for all its people,” said Executive Mayor Mngemezulu.
