Today’s celebration marks an important milestone as persons living with disabilities received certificates for successfully completing the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) business skills training. Their accomplishment is a testament to their resilience, dedication and the shared commitment of both municipalities to expand economic opportunities for all.
Lekwa Local Municipality, in partnership with Gert Sibande District Municipality and NYDA hosted the awards ceremony at Stanwest Community Hall. The programme seeks not only to award certificates but also to provide essential equipment to support beneficiaries in starting their own businesses and accessing future job placement opportunities.
The ceremony was led by the MMC for Special Programmes at GSDM, Cllr Busisiwe Mkhwanazi, together with Lekwa’s MMC for Community Services and Safety, Cllr Mapaseka Molaba.
Speaking at the event, MMC Molaba highlighted the importance of empowering vulnerable groups, stating:
“When we create opportunities for people with disabilities, we are not offering charity, we are investing in talent, restoring dignity, and building a community that truly belongs to everyone.”
This initiative also aligns with the spirit of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, reinforcing that safety, inclusion and equal opportunity form the foundation of a just and compassionate society.
