The Executive Mayor Cllr. Sifiso Mngemezulu chaired the Local AIDS Council which brought together government departments, community organisations, civil society and other stakeholders committed to strengthening the local response to HIV/AIDS, TB and other related social challenges affecting communities within the municipality.
The meeting was graced by the attendance of Gert Sibande District Municipality, Speaker of Council, Cllr. Busisiwe Sekhonde.
In his opening remarks, Executive Mayor Mngemezulu, stated: “I welcome all stakeholders, and I see that the structure is growing. I am happy that there
are new stakeholders who have joined the structure” he said.
During the meeting, government departments including Social Development, Department of Health and Department of Education presented updates on
their ongoing programmes and interventions. Their presentations provided insight into current initiatives, challenges, and opportunities to strengthen
social ill challenges.
The presentations opened the floor for engagement, allowing stakeholders to share inputs, raise concerns, and propose collaborative solutions to improve the implementation of programmes within the municipality.
“We, as the LAC we’ll continue to serve as a platform that brings all of us to coordinate efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS and related health and social
issues.” Executive Mayor concluded.
