The MMC for Community Services and Safety, Cllr. Mapaseka Molaba, led the Local Disability Forum (LDF) meeting at the Council Chamber. The meeting provided a platform for engagement between the municipality, stakeholders, and represent atives of people with disabilities. The aim of the meeting was to address challenges faced by people with disabilities, promote equal access to public services and ensure disability issues are included in the planning and service delivery process.
In her address, MMC Molaba emphasized the importance of inclusivity and collective responsibility in building a society that caters for all. “The Local Disability Forum is close to my heart, because we all need to be treated equally. The objective of this forum is to ensure that persons with disabilities are fully included in all aspects of community life,” she said.
The MMC further highlighted: “All stakeholders within the structure should work together to ensure that communities are empowered, informed, and responsive to the needs of persons with disabilities.”
The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss existing programmes, identify public service delivery gaps, and propose practical solutions to improve accessibility.
The Lekwa Local Municipality remains committed to fostering an inclusive environment where the rights and dignity of all communities, including persons with disabilities, are upheld and protected.
