Lekwa Local Municipality Convenes Local Aids Council

The purpose of the meeting was attended by representatives from various stakeholder organisations, including government departments and community structures committed to addressing HIV, AIDS, TB and related social challenges within the municipality.

The purpose of the meeting was to receive presentations and programme updates from key stakeholders, including the Department of Education, Department of Social Development (DSD), Department of Health (DOH), and the Local AIDS Council (LAC). The presentations focused on ongoing interventions, challenges, achievements and collaborative efforts aimed at strengthening prevention, treatment, care and support services in local communities.

Speaking at the meeting, Executive Mayor Mngemezulu emphasized the importance of working hand-in-glove all the stakeholders within the structure. “The fight against HIV, AIDS and TB is not the responsibility of one department or organisation alone. It requires all of us to work together, support one another and ensure that our communities have access to the information and services they need. Through partnership and commitment, we can build a healthier and more informed society,” said Executive Mayor Cllr. Sifiso Mngemezulu.

The meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to coordinate efforts, share information and strengthen partnerships in the fight against HIV, AIDS and TB, while promoting the well-being of all residents.

Stakeholders reaffirmed their dedication to working together in driving a collective response and advancing the well-being of all residents within Lekwa Local Municipality.
