The Lekwa Local Municipality Fire and Rescue Services recently conducted a fire safety awareness campaign in Ward 6, Slovo, as part of ongoing efforts to promote community safety during the winter season.
The safety awareness campaign aimed at educating residents on practical fire prevention measures and equip them with essential knowledge to reduce the risk of fire related incidents during the colder months.
During the awareness campaign, municipal officials highlighted several important safety practices, including the safe use of heating appliances, the correct storage of matches, paraffin and other flammable substances, the dangers of leaving fires unattended, and the risks associated with overloading electrical plugs.
Fire and Rescue Services stressed that winter is a high risk period for domestic and shack fires due to the increased use of heating devices and open flames. Community members, were encouraged to remain vigilant, adopt safe heating practices, and report fire emergencies on 017 712 5551.
