The Lekwa Local Municipality Fire and Rescue Services together with the Traffic Department, successfully conducted a dangerous goods transport inspection operation at the R546 on Secunda Road.

The purpose of the operation was to improve road safety, ensure compliance with dangerous goods transport regulations, and reduce the risks associated with the transportation of hazardous substances through the municipality.
During the operation, 20 dangerous goods vehicles were inspected. Fire Prevention Officers and Traffic Officers worked together to examine vehicles for compliance with safety requirements, including the condition of fire extinguishers, hazardous warning placards, transport documentation, emergency information, vehicle condition, and the safe handling of dangerous goods.
The inspection forms part of the municipality’s ongoing commitment to protecting the community, motorists, and the environment from potential incidents involving hazardous materials. Regular inspections help ensure that transport operators comply with the relevant legislation and maintain high safety standards.
The Executive Mayor and MMC for Community Services and Safety, Cllr. Sifiso Mngemezulu stated that this joint operation is one of the most critical vehicle compliance inspections to ensure not only road safety but also emergency readiness as many heavy vehicles passing through our towns carry hazardous goods.
“The municipality will continue conducting similar joint operations to promote public safety and encourage compliance with dangerous goods transport regulations.
“Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Through such inspections, we can reduce the risks associated with the transportation of hazardous materials and create safer roads for all,” said Executive Mayor Mngemezulu.
