Lekwa Local Municipality hosted a high-level Technical Project Assessment Visit by The Presidency Technical Team, Mpumalanga Provincial Government, Gert Sibande District Municipality and the Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA). The oversight visit focused on conducting an evidence-based assessment of infrastructure and operational constraints affecting the provision of water, sanitation and electricity services in the municipality.
Welcoming the delegation, Executive Mayor Cllr. Sifiso Mngemezulu emphasised the importance of collaboration between all spheres of government and key stakeholders involved in infrastructure interventions.
“The assessment provides an opportunity to identify infrastructure and operational constraints, develop sustainable solutions and strengthen oversight of ongoing interventions. The municipality welcomes this support and remains committed to delivering reliable and quality services to our residents,” said the Executive Mayor.
The visit commenced with a briefing session at the Lekwa Local Municipality Council Chamber, where the delegation was presented with an overview of the municipality’s infrastructure challenges, ongoing interventions and operational constraints.
Following the briefing, the delegation proceeded on an oversight visit to key infrastructure sites to assess the progress and effectiveness of ongoing interventions. The oversight visit commenced at the Vaal Pump Wastewater Station, where the delegation assessed the infrastructure and operational conditions affecting wastewater management.
The delegation then proceeded to the Standerton Water Treatment Plant. The site visit provided an opportunity for the Technical Team and stakeholders to assess progress on interventions, identify remaining challenges and consider measures required to strengthen the plant’s operational capacity.
The Technical Project Assessment forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure delivery and improve the provision of essential municipal services. The municipality remains committed to working with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that identified challenges are addressed through effective interventions.
