Lekwa Local Municipality has timely submitted the 2025/2026 Annual Financial Statements (AFS) and Annual Performance Report (APR) by the legislated deadline of 31 August 2026.
This underscores Lekwa Local Municipality’s commitment to accountability and transparency in the financial and performance management of the municipality. The submissions were made in full compliance of Section 126(1) of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), Act No. 56 of 2003 which stipulates that:
“The accounting officer of a municipality – must prepare the annual financial statements of the municipality and, within two months after the end of the financial year to which those statements relate. Submit the statements to the Auditor-General for auditing.”
Acting Municipal Manager, Ms. Thobeka Mtshiselwa said these submissions reflect collaborative efforts of the municipality’s governance structures that include management, audit committee and the Council in ensuring accountable and transparent governance.
She stated that this is part of the ongoing efforts of the municipality to ensure its financial statements and annual performance report are credible and that the municipality complies with the legislated timeframes in order to improve accountability.
“The submissions are critical accountability mechanism of financial and non-financial performance, not only to the Auditor-General but also to the residents of the municipality as they will access this information as well once fully audited,” said Ms. Mtshiselwa.
The municipality is hopeful that the submitted Annual Financial Statements and related information will have a positive impact on the auditing process that is currently underway.
