Executive Mayor Oversees Electrical Infrastructure Upgrade to Improve Power Supply

Jul 6, 2026

Executive Mayor, Cllr. Sifiso Mngemezulu, oversaw the replacement of a faulty electrical cable at the Sakhile Receiving Substation that had been leading to frequent power interruptions in Wards 1, 2, 5 and 11.

He explained that the old cable, which had multiple joints, was the cause of recurring faults and power trips. It has now been replaced with a new higher capacity cable designed to enhance the reliability and stability of the electricity supply to residents of Isiphingo, Ema9 and Rooikopen.

“Residents in these areas can now experience a more stable and reliable electricity supply more than before,” he said.

The Executive Mayor reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to improving electrical infrastructure and investing in projects that improve service delivery and provide residents with reliable electricity supply.
