Executive Mayor Returns Rightful Home to Long-Suffering Family in Extension 8

Apr 22, 2025

IMG 3980Extension 8, 17 April 2025 – Today, the Executive Mayor, Cllr. Sifiso Mngemezulu, visited Extension 8 to personally meet with Mr. and Mrs. Nkosi, a couple who have been fighting tirelessly to reclaim their RDP house. He was accompanied by Cllr. Masondo, the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Planning and Economic Development.

Following an investigation led by the Manager of Housing, Mr. Tladi, and his team, it was discovered that Mr. and Mrs. Nkosi’s home had been unlawfully occupied and rented out to others, while the rightful owners were forced to live in a flat nearby that was not theirs.

In a moment filled with relief and joy, Mr. and Mrs. Nkosi finally moved back into their rightful home just in time for Easter.

It has also come to light that all payment transactions for the illegal rental were conducted either in cash or via Shoprite money transfers. The individual who had been renting the property out is currently untraceable. However, further investigations are ongoing, and the municipality is committed to identifying and holding the perpetrator accountable.

“This marks the first such success in Extension 8 and it’s only the beginning. To those who hijacked houses: we are coming for all of them,” said Mayor Mngemezulu. “We are committed to correcting the wrongs of the past by making sure that every rightful homeowner is restored to their property. We will not rest until justice is served.”
