Lekwa Local Municipality has noted with concern a video currently circulating on social media alleging that a water tanker seen drawing water from the Vaal River belongs to the municipality or is collecting water on behalf of the municipality and that the water collected is supplied to communities.The municipality strongly condemns this malicious and deliberate attempt to tarnish the name of the municipality through spreading fake information using anonymous social media account.
The municipality wishes to place on record that the water tanker shown in the video does not belong to the municipality, nor is it contracted or authorised by the municipality.
The municipality assures residents that all official water tankers deployed to communities are properly authorised, monitored, and coordinated through the municipal water department to ensure that safe and clean water is provided to affected areas.
Residents are urged to verify information through official municipal communication platforms and avoid sharing unverified or misleading content that may cause unnecessary panic or confusion within communities.
The municipality remains committed to ensuring that residents continue to receive water during water supply outages.
