The Executive Mayor Cllr Sifiso Mngemezulu, hosted an unemployment and SMME Imbizo at Sakhile Stadium, bringing together residents, government departments, state-owned entities and private sector stakeholders to engage on employment opportunities and local economic development.
The Imbizo was attended by representatives from Seriti, Eskom, Sasol, the local solar plant project and the Department of Employment and Labour.
The engagement provided unemployed residents with an opportunity to submit their CVs, while also taking part in an open dialogue on employment challenges and available opportunities.
Addressing the gathering, Executive Mayor Cllr Sifiso Mngemezulu emphasised that unemployment remains one of the municipality’s greatest challenges and requires a collaborative approach from all sectors. He encouraged residents to continue equipping themselves with relevant skills and to take advantage of opportunities presented through partnerships between government and the private sector.
The mayor further reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for investment, supporting the growth of local SMMEs and working with strategic partners to improve employment prospects for the people of Lekwa.
The municipality remains committed to strengthening partnerships that promote economic growth, job creation and sustainable development for the benefit of all residents.
