Today was a memorable day for Lekwa as it hosted the Moral Regeneration Awareness Programme together with Gert Sibande District Municipality at Standerton Town Hall. The programme was held under the theme “Freedom with Responsibility”.
The purpose of the programme was to raise awareness about the importance of moral values, respect, discipline, and social cohesion within communities. It also aimed to encourage young people to make positive life choices, fight against social ills, and promote the spirit of Ubuntu.
The District Speaker of Council Busisiwe Sekhonde delivered a message of support where she emphasised the importance of restoring moral values among today’s youth, stating that society has drifted away from the principles and respect that guided communities in the past. She further encouraged all local structures and government departments within the Moral Regeneration Movement to become ambassadors of positive change towards building better communities.
Nzambenangai Film Production also performed a powerful short drama sketch portraying how some young people misuse freedom and gradually lose their moral values under the pretense of “living freely.” The performance highlighted challenges faced by today’s youth, including substance abuse, peer pressure, disrespect towards elders, criminal activities, and irresponsible behaviour within communities. The drama served as a reminder that freedom should be exercised with responsibility, discipline, and respect for others.
