As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen venue collection that will culminate in the financial viability and sustainable service delivery, Executive Mayor, Cllr. Sifiso Mngemeulu led a credit control enforcement inspections in the Standerton Central Business District (CBD)
The inspections aimed at tackling meter tampering, and cut illegal electricity connections as well as verifying whether businesses operating within the CBD are meeting their obligations of paying for municipal services.
The initiative forms part of the municipality’s commitment to improving revenue collection, which is essential for sustaining service delivery and maintaining municipal infrastructure.
During the inspection, the Executive Mayor expressed serious concerns over the increasing number of tampered and bypassed electricity meters, noting that these illegal activities continue to hamper the municipality’s ability to sustain service delivery by putting straining on financial resources.
“The municipality is losing substantial revenue due to bridged and tampered electricity meters.
“These illegal practices undermine our ability to provide reliable services to our communities.
“We urge all businesses and residents to comply with municipal regulations and ensure that they pay for the services they consume,” said Executive Mayor.
The municipality will continue conducting similar inspections across various areas to curb electricity theft, improve revenue collection, and ensure fairness among all consumers. The municipality remains committed to building a financially sustainable municipality capable of delivering quality services to all its communities.
