Today, Lekwa Local Municipality has officially commenced a six month learnership programme aimed at empowering 20 learners
with disabilities. This initiative is implemented in partnership with the Mpumalanga Association for the Blind and Rehabilitations
facilitated by the VB Skills Development Institute.

The programme is designed to equip participants with essential workplace readiness skills, while also providing training on how to manage and sustain their own businesses. It forms part of the municipality’s broader commitment to promoting inclusivity and economic participation for people living with disabilities.

Through this initiative, each participant will receive a laptop and stipend to support their learning journey. The programme is funded by the Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority (ETDP SETA), ensuring that every learner has access to necessary resources to successfully complete the course.

The municipality encourages persons with disabilities who are interested in similar opportunities to register on the municipal database. Registration can be done at the Transversal Office located at Standerton Library.
