On the 8th September 2025, Operation Shanela was officially launched in Ward 1 by the MMC for Community Services and Safety, Cllr. Maphaseka Molaba, alongside the Executive Mayor, Cllr. Sifiso Mngemezulu.
Operation Shanela is a cleaning campaign aimed at promoting cleanliness, eradicating illegal dumping, and encouraging community members to take pride in their surroundings. The campaign seeks to restore dignity, improve public health, and create a safe, welcoming environment for all residents.
Executive Mayor, Cllr. Sifiso Mngemezulu, said: “Cleanliness is the foundation of a healthy and dignified community. Operation Shanela is a call for all residents to join hands with the municipality in keeping our wards clean and free from illegal dumping.”
MMC for Community Services and Safety, Cllr. Maphaseka Molaba, added: “This campaign is about more than cleaning, it is about restoring pride in our communities and teaching future generations the importance of caring for their environment.”
The programme will continue in every ward over the next couple of days to ensure all communities benefit from this initiative.
