The Community Safety Forum has recently received numerous complaints regarding individuals seeking shelter on the pavements in front of businesses operating within the Central Business District in Standerton. This situation not only disrupts the daily activities of local businesses but also promotes social challenges that affect the overall community atmosphere.
In response to these pressing concerns, headed by MMC for Community Services and Safety Cllr Corne Stoltz along with SAPS, the Department of Social Development, Kasselman Security Services, SAVF and municipality officials has engaged with the homeless people in attempt to find a workable solution to address the issue of homelessness and social distress.
The engagement was at the Kasselman soup kitchen where the homeless are served with soup on Thursdays.
The engagement provided a vital opportunity for dialogue, allowing members of the Department of Social Development to speak with those in need and explore options for helping them to transition off the streets.
“This meeting is a crucial step toward restoring peace and stability in Lekwa. This situation not only disrupts the daily activities of our local businesses but also promotes social challenges that affect the overall community atmosphere,” said MMC Stoltz.
Through the outreach efforts, it was discovered that many individuals are open to receiving help and support to move away from a life of homelessness and substance abuse.
