Executive Mayor appoints the Mayoral Committee

The Executive Mayor of Lekwa Local Municipality, Cllr. Delani Thabethe has appointed the Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMCs). This follows his re-election as the Executive Mayor during the Special Council Meeting held on Thursday, 16 November 2023.

The Executive Mayor position has been vacant since 31 October 2023 when a Council passed a motion of no confidence in the Executive Mayor.

“I wholeheartedly welcome the election that I must continue with the work of rebuilding Lekwa Local Municipality and ensure that people receive quality services, he commented.

“When the position of the Executive Mayor became vacant, so did the Mayoral Committee as it is appointed by the Executive Mayor. Now to ensure that we continue with the strong focus on service delivery, In terms of Section 60 (1)(a) of the Municipal Structures Act, Act Np. 117 of 1998, I duly appoint the following Councillors to serve as Members of Mayoral Committee in the following portfolios:

  • MMC for Technical Services – Cllr. Sipho Majozi
  • MMC for Planning and Economic Development – Cllr. Thabo Sebiloane
  • MMC for Corporate Services – Cllr. Phindile Mahlaba
  • MMC for Community Services – Cllr. Seipati Modise

“I believe this will assist in continuity of the programmes that we were already implementing as we strive to provide our communities with quality services.

“This team as shown capability in fulfilling the task at hand and they are ready to continue from where they left off.

“I wish them all the best with their responsibilities as MMCs,” Concluded Executive Mayor Thabethe who will serve as Finance MMC.
