Lekwa Local Municipality Executive Mayor has spoken highly of the need to improve its finances and identify other sources of revenue for it to be able to effectively service its communities.
He was speaking during the two-day strategic planning session for the upcoming financial year, that was held at the Waterfront Lodge in Standerton.
The Executive Mayor also spoke on municipal departments working together to realize an integrated and coordinated approach in responding to community needs.
“The departments need to stop working in silos because this affects the way they respond to service delivery challenges faced by our people, the top management meeting must be a tool to coordinate the work of the departments,” he said.
He also emphasized the need for the municipality not to compromise on its mandate and seek partnerships from other state institutions and private sector so that they can fill the gap where the municipality fall short because of resources constraints.
The strategic planning sessions saw stakeholders such as Statistic South Africa, Provincial Departments of Economic Development, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs taking turns to present information on the recent census, demographics, economic performance among others with the aim to assist the municipality come up with a concrete strategy.
The session was attended by executive management, middle management, councilors and various stakeholders.
