The Moral Regeneration Movement (MRM) is a civil society driven structure, supported by the government, aimed at combating moral degeneration. It focuses on fostering development, social cohesion, and nation building while supporting traditional and cultural programs and also encourages a partnership between the people to address these key society issues.

MMC for Community Services and Safety Cllr Mapaseka Molaba opened the program, emphasising, “The Moral Regeneration Movement is an important step towards promoting moral regeneration within our communities. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that the values of integrity and respect are upheld.”

As part of the program, each stakeholder within the Transversal Unit nominated and voted for one of their members to represent them in the MRM structure. A total of 18 representatives were voted in and swore an oath to uphold their duties and responsibilities to the community.

Executive Mayor, Cllr Sifiso Mngemezulu, shared his personal reflections, stating, “Growing up in a poor background has shaped my understanding of the challenges many face today. This structure will not only foster moral regeneration but also play a significant role in combating poverty in our society. By strengthening our moral compass, we can work towards building a more equitable and just community.”

Cllr Rose Motloung, closed the event with inspiring words: “Today marks the beginning of a transformative journey for all of us. Let us stand together in unity, with dedication and a clear vision, to bring about real change in our communities.”
