5575ce91 1928 4b8f 8ce4 57aff9882330In an effort to combat the escalating drug addiction issues within the Lekwa community, on the 27th February 2025 the Local Drug Addiction Committee (LDAC), led by MMC for Community Services & Safety, Cllr. Mapaseka Molaba, has taken a proactive step towards addressing substance abuse.

The committee, which focuses on providing support and solutions to the communities who are often forgotten or overlooked in society, through Kasselman Soup Kitchen that is held every Thursday the committee reached out to those most affected by substance abuse.

The soup kitchen served as an ideal platform to open dialogue and address the issue of drug abuse, as it is a space where those in need can receive food, comfort, and most importantly, an opportunity to seek help.

Cllr. Mapaseka Molaba emphasised the need for drug addiction programs to be taken to a larger audience. “The programme has to be taken to the larger community of Lekwa, where most of the drug issues are extensive. It is not enough to address the problem from just one angle; we need to work as a collective to reduce substance abuse in the area.

The programme highlights the need for a comprehensive approach that includes not only treatment and rehabilitation but also education and prevention programmes” she said.
