Today, Lekwa Local Municipality in partnership with the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) donated 30 school uniforms to learners at Nyandeni Primary School. The initiative was led by Executive Mayor Cllr. Sifiso Mngemezulu and Cllr. Smanga Ngwenya.
The programme aimed at ensuring that all learners feel comfortable and confident among their peers, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. By providing these uniforms, the initiative seeks to promote equality and dignity among learners.
Mr. David Tsotetsi the Principal of the school, expressed his gratitude for the support from the stakeholders involved. He stated, “Every learner deserves to have school uniform, so they can all be equal and feel included.”
Cllr. Ngwenya shared his personal connection to the school, saying, “I am so pleased that this programme is benefiting the school today. It brings back memories of when Mr. Tsotetsi was my teacher in primary school. Seeing the positive impact this programme has on these children means a lot to me.”
The Executive Mayor also expressed his satisfaction with the initiative, “It is heartwarming to see these young learners receiving what they need to pursue their education in a dignified manner. Proper uniform plays a key role in encouraging a positive learning environment.”
