Mayor Thabethe leads a clean-up campaign in Standerton

Lekwa Local Municipality, Cllr. Louis Thabethe launched a municipality wide clean-up campaign today in a bid create a clean surrounding across Lekwa.

The campaign kicked off at Burger Street in Standerton town where the mayor rolled-up his sleeves and swept the streets.

Mayor, who was joined by Members of the Mayor Committee, said this was part of the rehabilitating the town and is expected to be implemented in the wards of the municipality.

“We are just launching it here but we will be embarking on this programme continuously within various wards of the municipality,” he said.

He said as much as the municipality is trying to deal with service delivery backlog, they also want to clean the municipality and made a call to resident to play their part by not dumping illegally anywhere.

“Part of the programme is to encourage shop owners and building owners to take stock of not only their buildings but also of their surroundings because some of the businesses are deliberately dumping waste in front their shops,” he said.
