Attention all prepaid electricity customers!!

Jan 22, 2024

ATTENTION ALL PREPAID ELECTRICITY CUSTOMERS!!

Please be advised, as required globally by STS (Standard Transfer Specification), all prepaid electricity meters need to be re-programmed by November 2024.

In preparation for this TID deadline, the Municipality is urging customers to call in and update their meter number, account number and contact details to ensure seamless continuation of service. Additionally, there will be multiple points (at the municipality offices, shopping centres etc.) where customers can physically update their details.

Once customers have submitted required details, they will be contacted to be guided through the TID update of their prepaid electricity meters.

NB! Customers with the conventional credit meters will not be affected by this.

The Municipality request all customers to co-operate during the process to upgrade their pre-paid meters to ensure that you will not experience challenges in the instance that your meter has not been re-programmed.

Please take note of the following before re-programming your pre-paid meter:

  • You need to ensure that you enter all your old and unused credit tokens on your meter before you enter the key change tokens. If you do not enter your credit tokens first, you will not be able to use them after your meter has been re-programmed.
  • Your credit that is already captured on your meter will not be affected.
