Dec 12, 2023

Lekwa Local Municipality welcomes the improved audit finding from the Auditor General of South Africa for the first time after receiving consecutive disclaimer for four years.

The municipality received a qualified audit outcome for the 2022/2023 financial year.

Having audited the municipality’s performance management, financial management and efficiency and effectiveness of municipal governance, the Auditor General has pointed out some matters that need to be addressed.

Executive Mayor, Cllr. Delani Thabethe said this audit outcome shows that the municipality is on the right path of rebuilding the municipal systems through effective good governance, accountability, and ultimately clean administration as “we strive to also provide quality services to our communities”.

“We are proud, as administration, that our efforts of steering this municipality to calmer waters are beginning to yield positive results and there is a lot of work that must be done to ultimately achieve clean audit which must be matched with provision of quality services to our residents,” Executive Mayor Thabethe said.

The Executive Mayor said he would like to thank everybody that contributed to the improved audit outcome, from the Council, the MPAC, the Audit Committee and the entire administration. He indicated that this confirms that “we can achieve a lot as a municipality if we work towards one common goal.”
